On 7 February 1846 Gouvy had his first Symphony played by an amateur orchestra conducted by Tilmant before a small audience gathered in a private home at his own expense. After having reworked the Scherzo, it was the composer himself who conducted the orchestra at the Théâtre-Italien on 7 April 1847. This first public performance, like others, particularly at Leipzig, was highly praised by the press. As a foil to this original rediscovery, the programme presents the Concert for piano and orchestra by Pierné, considered the French Rachmaninoff, and the Raymond overture, which for a long time was Bernstein’s encore on his American tours.
A special concert during the year Théodore Gouvy - 2013, organized in collaboration with the General Council of Moselle, the Moselle Vivants Arts and the Gouvy Institute.
