Performed at Montecarlo Opéra in 1907, Thérèse represents a psychological drama with French revolution background and it is one of the latest Massenet’s masterpiece, in which he reached the highest level of his art.
For the Palazzetto Bru Zane, resuscitating Thérèse is the occasion to pursue its collaboration with the Radio France and Montpellier Languedoc-Roussillon Festival by putting the accent on Massenet's least well-known creative period during which, nonetheless, such great masterpieces as Ariane, Bacchus, Roma, and Cléopâtre saw the day. With a constant concern for high standards and originality, it is offering the public a profoundly touching work whose political significance seems universal and still topical.
