Artistic partnerships (season 2009-2010)

Opéra Comique
Opéra Comique

Pooling their resources and expertise, the Opéra Comique and the Palazzetto Bru Zane have chosen to join forces to promote the French Romantic repertoire: each season the Palazzetto will be associated with the productions of nineteenth-century French operas at the Opéra Comique. Reflecting those productions and echoing the Venetian festivals, the two institutions propose original programmes worked out jointly and performed by outstanding artists. As well as concerts and stage performances, two colloquia will be held at the Opéra Comique, the proceedings of which will be published for the Palazzetto by Symétrie.

Centre de musique baroque de Versailles
Centre de musique baroque de Versailles

The Palazzetto Bru Zane and the Centre de Musique Baroque de Versailles are both dedicated to the exploration of the French musical heritage; together they focus attention on the last generation of eighteenth-century composers – Grétry, Jadin, Montgeroult, Boëly, Cambini and others – who were for the most part the pioneers of Romanticism. Several concerts and a colloquium, held in Venice and Versailles, illustrate the wealth of a period that is defended by both institutions as part of their respective missions.

En Terre romantique - Biennale de musique romantique - Moselle 2009
En Terre romantique - Biennale de musique romantique - Moselle 2009

Within the framework of its new cultural objectives, the Moselle General Council decided to join forces with the Palazzetto Bru Zane in the conception of a biennial event devoted to Romantic music, to be held throughout the Moselle département from 2009 onwards. Federating the energy of many local partners (artists, ensembles, conservatoires, festivals, concert halls, associations), the biennial will be organised by a departmental structure, “Moselle Arts Vivants”. It will highlight in particular the rich repertoire of the famous composers who were born in the Moselle département (Thomas, Pierné, Charpentier, Schmitt and Gouvy), and will be a venue for some of the concerts presented in Venice during the season organised by the Palazzetto Bru Zane.

Suona francese (spring 2010)
Suona francese (spring 2010)

Created in 2008 and launched by the French Embassy in Italy and the Franco-Italian foundation Nuovi Mecenati–Nouveaux Mécènes, which promotes the performance in Italy of contemporary works (music, dance, theatre, circus, cinema, visual arts, etc.), the festival Suona francese presents French music and artists all over Italy through its network of partners, programme planners and venues. After the contemporary repertoire in 2008, then Baroque in 2009, Suona francese turns for its next edition, in spring 2010, to music of the Romantic period. It will be working in close collaboration with the Palazzetto Bru Zane during the inaugural season in Venice.

Scientific partnership

Conservatoire de musique de Genève – Haute École de musique
Conservatoire de musique de Genève – Haute École de musique

The Geneva Conservatoire and the Palazzetto Bru Zane are working on a two-stage joint research project. The first stage involves detailed cataloguing of the Geneva collections of orchestral materials dating from the closing years of the eighteenth century to the beginning of the twentieth. In the second stage those same collections will be studied from an applied musicological standpoint. This work, begun in December 2008, has already enabled us to find the first edition, believed lost, of the overture to Les Francs-Juges by Berlioz. More generally, this research will lead to the use of the scores in a pedagogical context. Later there will be colloquia and study days, followed by the publication of works on the musical practices of that period.

Editorial partnership

Symétrie
Symétrie

Founded by two graduates of the Lyon Conservatoire in 1999, Symétrie is one of the few music-publishing houses in the French-speaking countries that produce not only scores, but also books and specialised journals. The Perpetuum mobile series includes biographical works, correspondence, collective works, essays and dictionaries; there are specialised journals (L'Orgue, Tempus perfectum) and ones with a pedagogical aim (Comment jouer...), as well as scientific and technical books devoted to the voice, and books of more general appeal (coffee-table books, CD-books, novels, short stories). For Symétrie, working in close collaboration with authors and composers is of vital importance in order to achieve the highest quality both in scientific content and aesthetic appeal. To that end Symétrie combines the most modern production techniques with all the advantages of traditional publishing. Symétrie is delighted to play a part in the ambitious programme launched by the Palazzetto Bru Zane – Centre de musique romantique française.

A word from the President

There are some fine causes, just waiting to be taken up by projects which are innovatory, inspired and well conceived… all that is lacking for success is the firm support of a committed partner.
