Based in Saint-Jean-de-Luz, the Académie Internationale de Musique Maurice Ravel has been, for 50 years, running renowned summertime courses geared towards assisting young musicians from all over the world in the spheres of instrumental and vocal music. With the aim of placing emphasis on the particular requirements of performing French Romantic music, in September 2015 the Académie Internationale de Musique Ravel and the Palazzetto Bru Zane established a close partnership to promote the rediscovery and teaching of what today is an often overlooked area of music.
The Palazzetto Bru Zane and the Académie Internationale de Musique Maurice Ravel, which is celebrating its fiftieth anniversary this year, continue for the third season their partnership focusing on tuition of the French Romantic repertory. Pronunciation and a feeling for theatre à la française for singers, and the notion of a ‘stylistic school’ for the instrumentalists, will form the programme for the individual classes, masterclasses and lectures offered (in public) to the young musicians participating in the 2017 edition. Scholarship winners from the September session will gain the opportunity to present the fruits of their work in Venice in June 2018, on the occasion of Art Night.
During the forthcoming season, which will take place from August 27 to September 10, 2017, course participants will be required to select one work from a list of rare pieces from the French Romantic repertory.
